Getting a tan in Q8
Hello folks,

My question to you is: Is it normal for a 109 diesel fuel tank to take fuel slowly? I can't get to the first notch on the fill handle without it backing up in the neck and shutting off. Normal or clogged vent do you think? Thanks for the opinions.

I will pull the filler neck next time the fuel tank runs low. Only thing that I can see is the chain for the cap. I am amazed that the filler neck enters the tank at the bottom half of the tank, that in itself would seem to make it fill slow. Guess i am just too used to Chevy's and Fords

I've got an 88 (I think the tank may be differnt) but on mine the filler neck is at the top, and I do find it fills slow, also the standard tank is a funny shape and gets an air lock, when you fill it until you can see the diesel, put the filler cap on, shake it from side to side then re open you'll find the fuel has gone all the way into the tank

I run on petrol now, but I do remember that diesel seemed to froth up while I was filling, and I had to keep stopping and waiting for it to subside. I can't remember if it differed between brands, sorry. Certainly it was worse if I left the gauze in place. Even now, on petrol, I always remove the tube, as it makes it much slower to fill.

I have to fill mine slowly, but, i have to drive it slowly, it's not a vehicle to use in a rush! Maybe i need to re-check my gauze, but, it's always been slow

I drive like you do. Take my time and will get there. My little 2.5 is pretty fuel efficient so whenever I can get the fuel level down without draining the tank or taking a long road trip I will check for gauze in the neck.
