The other problem i have is a strong petrol smell when the car is parked. If it is parked for several days there is no smell, it seems to be only for a period of time after i have driven it. The smell is at the rear of the RR mainly on the drivers side. I have had a good check around and can not find a leak anywhere. I took the panel out of the boot to have a look at the pipes there and they are pretty crusty and so are the pipes to the fuel filter. I bought a new filter but don't dare try and fit it as i think the nuts are going to be seized and i may end up with a immobile car.

Whilst restoring my MGB i managed to by a complete set of fuel pipes that i will fit to it. Does anyone know where i can get a set for the RR so i can change the lot. Or does anyone have a suggestion of what i could use?.

I am wondering if the smell is due to the system depressurizing whilst parked up, if the vent tube is partially blocked i wonder if that is what is causing the smell.

It is common for the feed and return pipes to rot where they enter the fuel pump / sender unit on the top of the tank. If this is the case with yours it will need a new pump / sender unit fitted to the tank and usually the pipes up to the filter.
Hope this helps
