I had a diesel leek on the cav pump on my series three. After watching mad dogs brilliant video I had a go at repairing it.only to create another leak round the gasket. After putting it back on and off three times and it starting each time I replaced the gasket but now it won't start .I've tried for hours to bleed it but still no joy.
Is it possible to put the cover on and sealed but with the stop shaft not in the right position and may be stopping fuel coming through.
I hope someone can advise me before I take the cover off again.

Not something I have had to play with yet but if you find out the issue create a post for the fix. They do come in useful.

The only issue I have had was destroying the thread to the pipe feed/one way valve when renewing the fuel lines. I botched it together temporarily without the one way valve until I could get a new one. That was a year ago. It’s still working.

It's such an awkward part to contend with when the pump is still on the motor. I was thinking if I take the lever from the front of the shutoff shaft and turning the shaft 180 degrees maybe it would connect to the flat shaft inside?.
But I don't know if all's ok inside and I'm doing something wrong on the bleeding process.
I can get fuel to the main part of the pump but not the cover section.
So any thoughts please reply.

Im not sure of the correct procedure but when I have had to I just open the bleed bolt nearest the engine first and when that stops blowing bubbles I tighten that one off and do the other one. Not had any issues so It must be the correct way.

Not sure what my next step is. This landy has been sitting in a shed for at least fifteen years with only 19052 miles on the clock so I have to expect a few problems.

They can be a pig to bleead. I had a lot of trouble after a recent pump change, it my case the lift pump was working just enough so long as there was no air, but once air got in after the repair it couldn't cope. I new fuel pump fixed it. If you loosen all the injectors so there is no compresion and also crack the hp fuel pipes then crank it should pump fuel after a while.

I've tried again today, got diesel to the main part of the pump then cracked two of the injectors but got nothing through .
Tried lift pump and cranking over. I'm ģoing to take the pump cover off again tomorrow to check fuel shut off lever
Unless I get more information.
I thought I read somewhere not to crack all four injectors only do 2 so this is maybe where I'm going wrong .

The intruction to bleed two is from Perkins, its the way I do it. But there should still be something coming out of the hp lines to the injectors. I'm more familar with the DP pump on the perkins which is slightly different. Have you blead the pipe into the injector pump, the little screw on the side and the screw by the shutoff (if there is one?) Have you turned the engine a bit in case the fuel pump lever is on the cam top? If I can find a picture I'll post it.

I haven't touched anything other than taken off the pump cover and renewed the four o rings on the two shafts.
There is a bleed screw on the pump cover and one on the pump body, I've tried both and can get fuel to both
I have tried moving the engine on the key and tried lift pump in various positions but still nothing to injectors .

I bit the bullet today and took the pump cover off again after getting nowhere trying to bleed the system.
On inspection the shutoff rod was not moving and I had to tap it lightly to free it. I don't know why it was stuck and so to avoid it happening again I've decided to remove the pump and have it checked professionally. I'm hoping I don't need to retime the pump as long as I mark it before removal.
Fingers crossed.
