I'm having some problems with my 55 plate TD4 and rough idling/poor performance.

I think I,ve narrowed this down to the fuel rail sensor, the problem clears up if I unclip the plug, squirt a bit WD40 onto it. However, this is obviously a temporary measure how do I best go about a permanent fix?

Just been quoted £195 + Vat for supply only of a new Fuel rail sensor and replacement harness and I thought that was a little steep

Is there any other way to fix this ?

I think there was a general issue with this sensor connection and LR brought out a mod kit of a new sensor and harness to solve it. I would agree that replacing the sensor altogether for what is just a corroded plug seems a bit overkill but LR were looking for a reliable fix.

Apart from doing the mod about the only other choice is to try and clean the contacts properly, tighten the grip of the sockets and grease it with contact lube to prevent further corrosion.
