fuel pump retaining collar wont go back on!

Please... please.... can anyone give me the secret to refitting the retaining collar so I can finish fitting my replacement fuel pump... having tried for almost two hours my fingers are bleading!

After much grinding and drilling I managed to get the floor plate up high enough to access the fuel pump on my 90... and it all popped out like a dream.... but can I get this collar back on

You need to fit the rubber gasket to the tank first making sure that it locates properly then slide the pump into the gasket.
If you fit the gasket to the pump it does not seat low enough against the tank to let the locking collar engage.
I also spent an hour messing about with the same problem. Did it as above and took all of 10 seconds to lock the retaining ring in place.

A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing... luckily we have Shifty to bale us out

If I ever fine 'Mr Haynes' and his - 'refitting is the reverse of removal' - I'll throttle him!!
