We have had two fuel pump issues quite close together on 1998 Defender 110 300 TDI (CSW) causing power loss (could still move but very slowly). First happened not long after purchasing vehicle at 500 miles. Apart from a couple of outings, spent long time on the drive with the 2nd occurring at around +2,000 miles. What are the typical issues that could cause fuel pump to fail in this way and is there anything we can do to help us avoid? Am not sure if other problems we experienced in between would have impacted (ie new cambelt fitted but mis-aligned, snapped and new re-fitted) during +2000 mile route. Any help appreciated.
