OK so coming home from the chip shop (could it have picked a worse time?)

and the disco starts losing power bunny hoping etc first thing that crossed my mind was fuel pump but this any way i mange to get it the 1/2 a mile home which took about 20mins (now have cold chips lol....) also had some puffs of blue smoke but I'm guessing the pump timing was totally out causing that

i open the bonnet to find a loud metallic tapping noise coming from the pump safe to say its had it i reckon

so I've just got a fuel pump off the land of ebay main thing i want to know is the flywheel locking pin the same on the 300tdi and a 19j?
please answer me yes or no as if not i can order 1 2day so i can get her sorted by the weekend.

also anything else that i should know or be aware of before replacing the pump like what size bolts lock the fuel pump pulley?

thanks in advance :)

Might be your pump pulling air, if filter or lift pump shagged, fit clear pipe from filter to injection pump,to see what is going on-mine buzzes like feck when pulling air-bosch IP's are virtually bomb proof-unusual to fail even on veg

hi mate thanks for the info I've removed banjo off top of the pump and pumped the lift pump into a tub after about 2mins i had over a mug full and no air bubbles coming to the surface so dont think its sucking air up. good idea tho and it was worth a look

any info on pump change still appreciated thanks

I think the pins on the 200 and 300 are the same, i normally just use drill bits.
I just used the arrow on the crank and cam pulleys when i did the belt on my 200.
I have also fitted a pump to a 300 in the middle of a field without removing the front of the motor at all! try google and theres a special tool that holds the pump pulley secure whilst you remove the pump, i just used a collection of sockets and bolts, this was several years ago and last time i saw him it was still running fine.

thanks for the info guys

Just to update this thread, biolandy was right the pump had sucked air up

I took the banjo off top of the pump bleed the system with the lift pump fitted it all back together after heating the cooper washers up and its run fine ever since

it had 20liters of veg through it just before this happened and was low on fuel my only thinking is she must of sucked up some crap out the bottom of the tank done about 100miles now and no issues :)

Glad you got it sorted,it is a good idea to put clear pipe from the filter feed to the injection pump banjo-this way you can see what is going into the injection pump.
When my BRITPART liftpump started to fail,it failed round the back(engine side)letting air in,and biodoozel into camshaft region-the bubbles were obvious in the clear pipe-Bosch pumps like a hydraulic system and not pneumatic-lol
