Hi Folks

I'm new to this website and first of all i'd like to say hello to all of you and ask a question.

Ive been meaning to up the power slightly on my 300 tdi 90 and would like to adjust the fuel pump and turbo to gain a little more BHP. However rather than just diving in does anyone know of any previous posts giving a step by step guide on how to do this ? I have had a hunt but couldnt find anything. I'd like to think I'm fairly competant at mechanics so shouldn't have a problem in doing this.I had this carried out on my previously owned 200 tdi and made quite a difference. Nice just to have a litlle bit more power when required and didn't make much of a difference in terms of fuel consumption either unless your were silly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the zone.

The 300tdi engine can as you suggest be tweaked, there is good tweaking and bloody awful tweaking. How much do you care about your engine and how much do you care about speed. If you really want speed then you bought the wrong vehicle, but granted it can be turned up a bit.

There are 3 adjustments which can be made and they all need to be done together to get the optimum tweak which won't trash your engine, blow your fuel budget, leave a James Bond smoke screen at the back or over-boost it and blow your head gasket.

You want to balance the full load fuel delivery rate, with the low manifold pressure fuel delivery and the full power adjustment.

As you turn up the full load you need to back off the low manifold etc...

Research this carefully before you commence (search here and google - the VE pump is used in loads of vehicles and tweaking them is the same). Don't be greedy and you will be fine.
