Hi all recently purchased a 2000 p38 dhse with an immobiliser problem, having sorted this with a second hand becm I now have another problem when I go to start the car it turns over a short while then starts but sounds like it's running on 4 cylinders with the revs at about 1400 rpm for approx 20 secs then dies down and runs normal although when driving is holding back I haven't serviced it yet although changed in tank fuel pump and leak off pipes any ideas thanks in advance

You can change the fuel filter easily enough. Don't like the sound of running on 4 cylinders but why would it then sort itself out? Any air in the fuel line when it starts?

Service it and look at the glow plugs and the pressure pipe from under manifold to MAP sensor. Check that EGR valve is not stuck open.

No air what I can see in fuel line and glow plugs look brand new also egr blanked off

It doesn't matter how new they look it's if they are working that matters, sounds like you have a couple of duff ones. When was the intercooler last flushed out? A few things could be causing the power loss problem.

Hi again map sensor pipe was off but replaced and still the same but the air temp sensor I think on manifold has no plug on it and I can't seem to see it .. Inter cooler is on the job list just trying to sort this fuel/air problem out first thanks again

There should not be an air temp sensor on the manifold on your year of car. Is the manifold alloy or plastic?

Oh dear it's an alloy one

It has had a pre 1998 engine dropped in it then. Make sure the MAP pipe is clear of obstructions and crack and split free. Check for obstruction in the pipe it slides over on manifold and there is no obstruction in MAP sensor itself. A little carb cleaner and a gentle blow out with an airline should clear any oil residue. Don't poke anything into it. If intercooler is clogged up that will also cause problems.
