My local BP service station is selling at AU$1.09 for a litre of diesel.
Thats about 46pence per litre.
Out of that amount the government take 38 cents in duty and then
another 10% of the selling price in GST, 10.9cents.
Transport costs I'd guess at about 2.5 cents per litre if they can
take a full load of diesel - about 55,000 litres.

So about 50cents for the oil company which considering the
investment most of them have in refining and drilling does nt
seem overly high, certainly their return on investments in terms
of share dividends is not over the top.

The prices have increased from about 85cents six weeks ago.

It would be interesting to see margins on other services - phones,
McDonalds, etc. anyone know?

US$3.69/gal.of petrol at 92 octane. Local BP as well. Here in the US they
market it as "Better Petroleum."

Here in Greece prices are as follows:

Unleaded petrol 95 octane 1.112 Euros per lt.
Unleaded petrol 100 octane 1.18 Euros per lt.
Diesel 0.998 Euros per lt.
Heating Diesel 0.60 - 0.65 (still to be be announced, this is what is
expected) Euros per lt.

Take care

was about to say the same thing. while i no longer have a diesel, i haven't
seen it under about $1.20 for a few weeks now.

Sam.

In South Africa petrol & diesel cost around .69 to .75 Euro a litre.
Cheaper in Botswana and Swaziland, who buy from us as they have no
refineries, etc..... go figure.

Diesel is more expensive than unleaded in the UK by 3 to 5p/l. I'm
sure it used to be 3 to 5p/l cheaper.

"announced" that indicates that the price is fixed for the season? In
the UK the price varies rapidly and greatly influenced by the price of
crude and demand.

However I sincerly hope that the UK price is not at that price level
of approx 42p/l.

Ah yes, so it did, because it was held to be better for the environment than
petrol. Then we all bought diesel cars and hey presto! the Gov say it's bad
for the environment and it's now more expensive than petrol.

LPG is currently "good" for the environment and is cheap. However, in the
last budget, GB was talking about the benefits of LPG being less than was
once thought, and that the duty would be brought up to match U/L in the
longer term.

Spot a pattern, anyone?

I don't mind paying the duty so much, it's being lied to and manipulated
that boils my p*ss.

Obviously prices vary in the US quite broadly. In Oregon here on the
Pacific coast, the average is about $2.69/US Gallon. Which would be
about 70 cents/liter which would be about 39p/liter.
