Fuel leak

Hi got a fuel leak from a unit on drivers side of diesel tank on my 2001 Discovery TD5 ES, Don't know what the unit is, Is it a fuel pump or a fuel filter its the size of a can of beens with a plug in electrical lead on the bottom, And can i do it my self ? And how much ?

it is a can of beans with its own heating element.

That unit is the fuel filter. Best option is to replace the filter element and the oil seal ring at the top.(make sure you get the old one out first). The bit with the wires at the bottom is the water sensor. Check the fibre washer on that too.
