Hi all

RR P38 4.6L V8 (X) 2000

I am still chasing a petrol misfire and I am now down to the Injectors. If the weather is nice tomorrow I am going to remove them for testing.

Does anyone know where I can get my injectors tested within 20 miles of Newport, South Wales?

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much it costs per injector?

As ever thanks for your help.

Cheers

Hi All

A Nice man in Cwmbran tested my injectors. (Terry Slack Motors)

A couple were sluggish was the comment!!

A technical questiion:

At the bottom of the injector there is a rubber seal. Below the rubber seal ther is a washer. Its a sort of retaining washer by the looks of it. One of these washers is missing but other than the funtion of retaining the rubber washer it doesnt seem to do anything.

If I fit this injector with the missing washer will there be a problem?

Injectors are designed to fire a certain amount of fuel into the cylinder before the ignition process starts.
This is known as penetration. Then the flame front starts the combustion process to give complete combustion of the fuel.
So the distance of penetration can be critical to power and fuel efficiency.

While a missing washer (spacer?) won't cause a huge problem short term, I would advise correct installation asap.

Also, what did he mean by 'sluggish'?
Ultrasonic cleaning of the injectors could help this,
but petrol injectors are relatively cheap compared to diesel ones.

It may be worth investing in some new ones, as you may save a bunch of money
due to increased fuel economy. :D

Hi Bison4x4

Thanks for your info.

The nice chap in Cwmbran Ultrasonically cleaned and tested them for me. He said a couple of injectors were sluggish before the cleaning process! They are all working fine now.

"While a missing washer (spacer?) won't cause a huge problem short term, I would advise correct installation asap." Now this is interesting. I didnt consider the washer to be a spacer. Thats a good thought mate. Is it possible that this washer/Spacer holds the injector at a certain postition within the fuel rail?

Quite possibly, it depends on it's position on the injector.
From you first post I thought you meant it was at the nozzle end of the injector,
which is why I waffled on about 'penetration'

This would be critical for good combustion if the injector was to go too far in due to the missing washer.

If it is at the rail end, without having one here to look at,
it is possible it may just cause a poor alignment of the injector in the rail.

This may not be a problem as some people change the Lucas injectors for Bosch
ones which have a slight alignment problem, but seem to work ok.

Hi Bison4x4

Thanks for your valuable imput. I have taken on board what you have said and purchased a service kit for the injectors. New seals and washers for all my injectors!

Hopefully now they will be perfect!
