Fuel filter fitting..

okay so gonna put the new fuel filter on tomoro..
Do i need to fill the filter up before putting it on??
do i need to bleed the air out by pumping it in, anyone explain?

yep

last time I changed mine I filled the new one after putting it in its place, besides bleeding the air out unscrewing the air plug and pumping til its full remember to keep the gas hoses turned up so that minimum air goes in them

how do i keep the gas lines full then.. don't get this fuel filter at all.....

if its a diesel..start engine and warm it up. stop engine and put battery on charge, unscrew old filter, screw on new one, either crack the bleed screw on top of filter open a turn ,use the manual priming pump to fill filter till diesel comes out top , do up bleed screw. take battery charger off ,. start engine, itwill probably need a bit of cranking over to get it running.

you can ommit the starting and warmng up and the battery charging if its warm weather and your battery is good...... but in cold weather with an iffy starting engine it can make the difference tween being able to crank the fuel through to expel any residual air.

is it a 2 or 300 tdi?

If so then just fill the new one up and screw back on,

no need to bleed it

as said no need to bleed on a 200 or 300, in fact you can get away without filling but itr will splutter and run like a bag of spanners for 60 seconds after changing, did mine in the motorway services last night and as it was cold n windy i simply unscrewd the old one and fitted a new empty one and fired up.

maker sure you remove the old centre o ring so you dont end up with two fitted, the old one is often left behind when you take off the old filter, i use DAF wagon filters as i got a load from the sortout at 5 for a tenner.

mmm done that once with a v8 oil filter, luckily it never made
it to the road before i noticed...

thanks alot guys, its the 200 for the record.. didn't wanna end up taking it off, putting new one on then not being able to get the bugger started again!
