Disco 1 Fuel filling problem

My truck is a pig to fuel up, anything more than a dribble and it causes the pump to shut off as if tank is full. I've had to resort to filling jerry cans and filing at home, it's quicker

It's been suggested to me that it could be a breather issue (i get no back pressure or 'hiss' when removing filler cap).
Any suggestions?

Thanks to the wealth of help & information here I'm gradually ironing out the creases with my discovery 1(1995 auto 300 tdi) But I'm stuck with a couple of niggling things, so thought better to ask.

I'm not totally familiar with the D1, but considering just general tank installations, there are one or two things I would try to look at first.

Generally there's a flexible pipe which connects the filler to the tank. Check that this pipe hasn't started to delaminate on the inside which might cause an obstruction.
The second thing I would check, even though you say that you don't have a breather problem, there might be a breather pipe from the bottom of the filler pipe to the top of the filler. This is to prevent air trying to escape through the same pipe as the fuel is entering the tank, causing an apparent blockage.

Thanks brian47, sorry if I made it sound like I thought there's no breather issue. I accept there may be breather issues.
When I had a quick look the thin vent pipe was a little bit caked in dry mud. I cleared it as best i could.

By vent pipe I mean 23 in the following pic though mine (nor my mates d1 has a 'vent pipe coupling' its just tie wrapped to larger filler pipe. His fills normally)

I had hoped not to have to mess around unduly with the tank, but looks like I'll have to investigate breather and filler at least.

Any tips on that much appreciated
