I have an '82 series 3 and i have managed to lose the fuel filler neck extension and want to replace it. Having looked online I am unsure what one I need. There appears to be two different part numbers in the book: 277262 and 504656.
The problem is looking at photos neither of these look like what I had previously.
The bottom of the one I had did NOT look like this (link) but instead looked more similar to this one (link) and had the chain attached to the bottom discussed in that thread (although it was too short so not attached hence losing it!). It was not smooth like the second link though and instead had the channels like the first one. It looks similar to this one (link) from an early defender.
Does anyone know what part number I need to be looking for?
Or even better does anyone have a spare one for sale?

Hi dag109. The one on my 1977 series 3 looks like the first one. I have two tanks and both filler tubes look the same although I have never removed them. How did you come to lose it? I'm not sure if they changed the design during the series 3 production, very early ones might have been the same as 2a (if they were different). The one in your second link looks like it has a different filler cap to mine but the last link is the same cap as mine. I'm not being much help I don't think. The tubes are only really used when topping up from a Jerry can so they are not essential.

I have a filler cap that is the same style as the on in the early defender link.

My 1974 S3 is like this:
That looks the same as the bottom of mine did however, I need the depressed channel up the side for the locating "stud" similar to the one in the first link.

Unfortunately I fill up with Jerry cans fairly regularly which is why I am so annoyed I have lost it. I managed to lose it because fuel does not flow through the gauze at the bottom quick enough when using a pump so it keeps stopping, I therefore removed it to fill up at the petrol station. I went back earlier today to check if it had been handed in and the chap there knew exactly what I was talking about and said they had found it on Monday. Now though, he cannot find it and is assuming that his colleagues have disposed of it. I left my details in case it does tun up but I am not hopeful.

Hi, I have a stash of 83 series 3 parts including a filler cap like the last link, not 100% sure what the filler neck is like but it was different to my 81 series 3 I had previous to it, will dig it out a get some pics, see if it is any use to u.

eee well so far I cannae find the damn thing, will have another look tomorrow

Thank you. That's much appreciated if you do find it I'm sure it will help me to at least have a pic of what I am looking for rather than just memory.

Found the fuel filler today (while looking for something else)

This is what it looks like:

No chain to stop the filler neck extension but a loop in both parts to tie it down.

Thank you for the Pictures. I am still looking for one, I was just about to buy a NOS genuine one from ebay that has come up at a very good price when I saw your post. Is yours for sale, how much would you want including postage?
