Hi all , i fitted a 19j into my series last year but did it a bit ad~lib so just to set the scene, all i got was a 19j with ancillaries ,so what i did was drop it in ,move the battery under the passenger seat, ditched the viscous fan and fitted a remote oil cooler out front and kept the series rad ,no probs with cooling,i didnt use the oil bath air filter as i was concerned about the turbo sucking the oil through so fitted a k&n style filter via a flexi hose from a merc sprinter as these use the same turbo but has a breather intake but recently its been getting a bit thirsty taking longer to start form cold (glow plugs all good and good large battery) and emitting a white/blue smoke when running ,no problem with overrun but have also noticed underside of pump is damp with diesel but cant find a definite leak ,however when i spray the pump with brake cleaner whilst running it will rev for a few seconds then die back to normal but no obvious drips, would advancing/retarding the pump help if so is this done same as series by rotating the pump??i want it running for economy not performance as this is my daily runner any help would be appreciated

Mine was weeping from behind this plate on the side of the pump

There a rubber seal behind it that perishes and flatten out. Hard starting is due to air getting in and you're basically priming it as you start it. Good luck.....

thanks for the replies guys been flat out at work and had no time but i will look at the side plate and i like idea of whispering 6th nice one lol
