hi guys my 2.25 diesel has been smoking and losing power.i have tracked it down to incorrect injector timing.however,my fuel distributor has already been turned all the way clockwise (maximum advance).how else can I set the timing right? thanks!

How much would you expect a garage to charge for doing a timing chain ? (By that I mean your local, not kwik fit or landrover themselves !!)

I could prolly do the chain replacement myself.will take awhile though.@nickjaxe you are saying the fuel disrtributor could be a tooth out?but how will I know if it is after taking it out?it had been on maximum advance since te day I got te truck a year ago

There is a setting procedure to set the chain. You will need a dial gauge and a simple fabricated bracket to hold it on to number one exhaust rocker. Remove the floor panel over the bell housing to gain access to the timing inspection plate and set to the "EP" mark on the flywheel. All is revealed in the workshop manual. A service tool is available to reset the timing pointer on the engine but you can get away with a bit of trial and error.

^^^ What Nickjaxe says. They are very poor runners with a goosed timing chain.
