Hello all i have done a search but carnt find the right info or if any one has experianced:

on the way to work this morning it was raining so i had my wiper s on. when i got to work i went to turn the wipers of but they stayed on even when i removed the keys from the ignition ?????

i tryed removing the fuse under the bonnet which has stoped them but soon as i refit it they come back on again even though the key is out

only functions that work on the stork are on and fast the intermediate is just on

just wondering if some one elese has had simular problem before i start to strip the fuse box down

thanks

That they are, but are you not more likely to lose power to something, rather than get a permanent connection?
It doesn't take much power to hold a relay in Tony, if there is burnt PCB it's quite easy to get a short between tracks, same if there is corrosion & verdigrease. Seen it happen may times on industrial stuff.:)

Granted, the old Dagenham disaster had a fuse box like that. Press the foot brake and everything lit up like Blackpool sea front. :):)

Switch off what? Switch off the wipers and they self park, switch off the ignition and they stop where they happen to be.
Sure? I don't have a P38 and I might be wrong, but I thought that the wipers self parked when the ignition/aux were switched off.

Not sure now you mention it and the car is away at the moment, but I usually park wipers vertical if I go through a car wash but have not tried it recently on the P38.
You can certainly stop the rear wiper away from the park position which you have to do the change the blade.

Well mine do (1998 P38) - Switch off and pull the key mid-sweep and they self park.

It's one of those little things you take for granted and don't really notice until they go wrong, I remember my old mini (first registered Jan 1st 1960) had no such luxuries, the wipers just stopped when and where you switched them off. (cue 4 yorkshiremen "Wipers - you were lucky")

Only way to stop rear wiper is opening boot or take out fuse, self parks on ignition off

When you switch the wipers off, the becm continues to power the wiper motor until the becm sees a gnd signal from the park switch (in the wiper motor). so using a voltmeter check to see if the becm receives this gnd signal ie voltmeter will show 0 volts. When wiper is not in park position, this input voltage should be >10volts. If becm is not seeing a park sw input then wiper is faulty or that wire is open circuit.
Next check becm output to wiper low speed wiper relay in fuse box. When becm wants wipers to run it will ground that wire. So if wiper park switch is ok, but the becm output to slow speed relay is staying at ground then becm faulty or this wire is shorting to ground. If this wire is >10 volts then becm is ok and fault is fusebox or relay. You can change to relay with another one of same colour to check the relay. Sorry don't have a rave disc so can't tell the wire colours or connector numbers.
