might be a silly question but can a rear diff be made to work at the front? thinking about adapting a P38 4-pin rear diff for the back of my disco and was wondering if the same could be dont at the front (use rear p38 diff for the front of the disco)!

As far as I know this should be possible, the wear will be different, obvs, so putting a rear where a front used to be will be almost like it was new.
Might even be a good idea to take the original diffs and swop them front to back and vice versa.;):D

from what i am seeing the direction of the stock diffs are the same so only the rear is normally working on the strong side. this explains why front diffs are more prone to wear and whining. ashcroft offer a fix for that by means of front/rear crowns... anyway it means that my idea for the p38 diffs would work front or rear... off to find a couple good diffs for a reasonable amount of money.
