i've just finished welding a new dumb iron to my series and whilst i was taking the front panel off thought it needs some sprousing up.

was going to shot blast it, but thought galvanising would be the best bet as it'll last for many years

anyone had there front panel galvanised? if so what's the average cost to get it done

see if you can find a local fab firm and can slip it in with their next lot going of the the galvers because here is usually minimum charge

i only live about 5 miles away from a galvanisers on the wirral. was going to pop over with it and get a quote. but want to get a rough idea first on the cost.

dont think they will take it if its covered in paint, you might have to strip it first. From memory it was £90 min charge up to 50 KG.

If you prep, eg depaint it , and put it in with another order , its pretty cheap , as its mostly done by weight , ie the amount of zinc put on the item . its worth having a chat with them .

yes it is roften galvanisers, sent them an email with dimensions and pics, probably just go down the shot blast way, and red oxide it. seams everything else i've cleaned on my project is covered in the stuff.

Aye will need to be stripped back anyway, shot blast is the norm but you can burn the paint/plastic coating off and then wire brush. They will dip it before galv anyway to remove any organic matter, surface rust etc. Most go be weight, we charge £1.50/Kilo on return, but this includes carriage. As has been said you'd be best to chuck it on a pallet of stuff at a local company, but on the other hand if you turn up and sweet talk them they might just stick it in with some other stuff and take your cash, worth a try anyway!
