Today I was all ready (got the parts - bushes and links) and the enthusiasm to go and get rid of the knocking sound that is coming from the front.

Lifted the car, reviewed the bushes and the links in more detail and they actually seemed fine. What was off was the bar itself, more precisely, it moved laterally (you could push it through the hydraulic unit of the anti roll system...) no hydraulic leaks tho. It seems, that is a very good candidate to be the culprit of the noise.

Does anybody know:
1. If this is by design and it should give way laterally?
2. If no, do I have to replace the whole unit (the hydraulic unit, the bar, the bushes and the mounts) or I can replace just the hydraulic unit or there are better (simpler or more reliable) aftermarket solutions?
3. The best way to replace it? For example, when I was looking at the LH bush brackets, i could see how one would struggle to take if off if the back bolt was long as it would just hit against a drive shaft... (part of the reason why I examined it in further detail before trying to take it off)

Many thanks...

Changing the anti roll bar bushes helps the life of the ace unit, well thats what my mate was told by his neighbor who is a jlr mech
they were a right pig to do as you said, access and long bolts drivers side was bad, if only they had bolted through the subframe to the rollbar bracket in instead it would be an easy job, we did them in a morning easy

Thanks. So the bolts will come out without needing to take our any other parts? On what exact model did you do it? What did you do with the hydraulics? Did you replace the whole system?

The car is a 57 plate sport 3.6 tdv8 we only changed the anti roll bar bushes to try and stop the ace part leaking, if and when it is leaking badly it will get changed, not a job i am looking forward to as i will probably be called to give some help.
