Front Diff Seal Leaking again

frc8220 in that case then ,you could have play in the bearings that would allow diff flange to move up/down check, garter spring often pops off when tapping new seal in ,cover spring in grease /vaseline to hold it in while fitting ,flange often is pitted or grooved were seal runs

The flace surface looked ok however it can be hard to tell? To be safe a replacement?

Not quite sure what you mean, both sides of the diff? I assume when you say gasket you mean seal?

I think FT is confused again bless him, it sounds like he is talking about the diff gasket from diff to axle.

as for why your oil seal is leaking, if its the input shaft ie the prop, probably got a worn bearing or grooved and pitted shaft or worse still both, was it a corteco seal or plain bag with ****part written on it:rolleyes:

No the diff cover or was he talking pinion seal

diff covers are welded on the standard landy axles, and yes he was talking about the pinion oil seal, i think.

If diff cover is welded how do you change the diff if it fecks up???? Does not the diff come out the end with the drive shaft on ............. there is a gasket/seal there clean and rtv both sides and but gasket on then diff in then tighten......... right???????????

ok lets try and make this simple for the septic, the diff cover is commonly called the diff pan its the bit on the front of the axle covering the diff like this, the diff itself is housed in the diff casing which is at the back of the axle as you look from the front, now this has a gasket and bolts which need nipping up in opposites, i can see you are talking about this part of the diff and i kind of undersatnd what you are saying but your terminology is all to feck, if you went shopping for bits over in the uk god knows what you would come home with.

is that simple enough for you FT?
