Been replacing the front diff pinion seal this morning & after getting the flange off have noticed that the actual splined shaft wobbles left right up & down. Does this mean the bearing is knackered or is it just because the flange has been removed & not securing the shaft in place? Thanks

Right, bear with me cos I ain't done a front one before and I don't know if you're talking about a D1 or a D2, and I don't know if they are different.
So, I had the same thing on the rear of my D1. It turned out to be the pinion nut had come loose. I thought it was going to be bearings so wasted money buying them before getting the spigot off. Which was a struggle. So maybe that it what you have but the only way to tell will be to get the spigot off and have a look.

It’s fine with the pinion nut tightened & the flange back on, just when the nut is off & the flange removed the shaft can be moved around. It’s a D2.

if, once tightened up to the specifed torque, you get no wobble and no vibration or other worrying noises while driving along I doubt I'd be worried. But I haven't doen one so hopefully someone who has will jump on and tell us. To be honest, if there is room for the pinion to move back into the diff a bit when not tightened up then it would not be surprising that it moves a bit, but as I said I am not going to try to advise you further without further knowledge.
Did you take the diff out of the carrier?
