I happened upon a Freelander the other day and decided to buy it. It's my first LR, a 2l td4 186,000km, very clean, 2007, new AT tires, recent full oil service, bought privately for a nice price. Added in was a top box and the rails. The PO had already upgraded to a FL2. Before signing the owner transfer documents, he entered the room with a box-full of paperwork, bundles of receipts. Fortunately most were just for regular service. There was a Haynes manual as well, very very clean which is a good sign. Outside of regular service in the last year or two was a new rear door regulator, eternal ignominy to that design crew. Power window regulators for all 4 doors. New sill under door. The aux. belts and tensioner were replaced at 146,000km. He said a map was installed to boost HP and torque, though I can't say I notice too much of a boost.
His only breakdown was an external fuel pump @130,000km, that was replaced along with fuel filters.
He said probably the source of the problem was the installation of a wrong fuel filter at previous service time

In time when I´m confident with the jeep I´d like to install 6.5", 3" deep speakers in the front doors and add sound dampeners to the internal door panels.
My speakers are excellent quality, heavy duty and keep following me from car to car. With them in, there´s no need for rear door speakers or bass box. Probably I'll sound dampen parts of the floor as road noise does intrude. There are few things more irritating than poor speakers trying to be heard over road rumble.

Welcome to LZ, you might find if the AT tyres are to aggressive they may be responsible for the road noise.

Ps dont call it a Jeep;)

You definitely have a point with the new tyres. I've not the comparison experience with this vehicle. However road noise in general in this vehicle from the rear does compare unfavorably to other 4wds with similar tyres. I see there is nothing to dampen the vibrations on the floor of the rear except for a thin carpet material. I wouldn't go overboard but the rear is an easy accessible place to start with and the gain can be massive for an hour or two labour.
I take your point re use of the word J**p. The Icelandic word for most all 4WDs is Jeppa, with a very soft J (Yeppa), it comes from the times of occupation during WW2 by the Allied forces, the US army section (of course).
More of a putdown here is the word 'jepplingur' which means jeeplet, used to refer to a city/tarmac jeep.
