Looking at getting a 60 litre ARB fridge... anyone any experience, 60 litre a good size? Any other makes I should look at?

Engel or Waeco nothing else imho all the aussie guys keep engels on their trays in dirt sand dust rain and never ever heard of one breaking 60l is a fairly good size although I was thinking of getting a 72 with one side switchable to freezer

Well that didn't go well, asked the missus for her opinion between two and she blew up (not literally) about me spending too much money on stuff and that i didn't need one and stuff

So, no fridge this time, but, I did go and buy lots of new toys for the 110 instead
(new steering wheel, the Puma one is far too big, new mudstuff overhead storage system and the glove box conversion kit)
Next on the list is a new cubby box i think, and maybe one of those floor safe's - they look pointlessly cool

Fridge will have to wait a month or so until she's forgotten about it... (Will probably be a 65 litre Waeco i tihnk)

Waecos good, been around years and spares easy to get, never heard of ARB fridges.

not much to go wrong in em tbh, no compressor, and if(when) the mains element goes, you can run em on gas (12V for on the move only, no where near as good at cooling on 12V as on gas or leccy)

Absorption fridges are cheapest, we have an Electrolux RM2267 in the trailer, runs on gas, 240V or 12V.

Input power is 100W on 12V (8+ amps) 240V and 167W equivalent in LPG.

Look also at the Waeco Mobicool coolboxes, we bought one to take to France and it was terrific. That was a G35, 240V and 12V.

If you need drinks or food kept cool or cold but don't need an out and out fridge, these are good substitutes and acceptable to the wife/GF as a 'useful accessory'!

The best are compressor type, the absorption type , work ok when not moving on gas, on electric 12v very current hungry , mains better . The best compressor type are , Engel, Waeco , Supakool , National Luna, not necessarily in that order. Compressor type are V expensive. In UK absorption type are most of the time adequate . , and a lot cheaper .
So you pays yur money etc . HTSH

ARB are pretty much an engel copy

Our fridge works very well on the move on gas, it didn't turn off for nearly 3 weeks and 2000 miles of driving.

Ours worked in southern France in 36+ degree temperatures, but we do have compartment ventilation fans to help get the heat out.

Compressor fridges are better generally as they don't use heat to get the fridge cycle going like absorption types, so typically there is an upper limit with absorption fridges where they won't remove any more heat from the interior.

ARB are an extremely highly regarded Australian brand and their fridges are top notch.

A compressor fridge is a lot better then an absorption fridge. The ARB fridge are designed to work through angles of +/- 45 degrees and have a fraction of the current draw of an absorption fridge.

The ARB 47 litre fridge has a current draw of 0.87 amps/hour whereas absorption fridges are in the region of 3-4 amps/hour.

The ARB 47 fridge is a genuine 47 litre whereas the Engel MT45 fridge is a 40 litre fridge

The ARB 47 litre fridge is much better then the Engel in several respect. ARB you set the temperature in degrees C whereas the Engel you have a rotary knob. ARB has a drain plug, Engel not. ARB has an inbuilt battery monitor, Engel not it is an optional extra.

We have both the ARB 47 and Engel MT45 and have used both extensively on our travels

Have only heard good things about the ARB fridges seem to be the most commonly used in the USA / Aus from what I've seen. Also have heard Terrafirma have a very similar product a bit cheaper.

Would love one but wow are they expensive!

The Terrafirma fridge is cheaper then the ARB fridge.

Current draw is about three times that of the ARB however!

Well, for now, i'm getting one of the coolboxes with a 12v cooler unit on top from argos... it will last the week in Yorkshire which is all i need for now, but, i'm sure the missus will have forgotten in a few months then i can buy a proper fridge There isn't much in it - a Waeco one is only about £50 more than ARB

We hired a Waeco when we went to Morocco and it survived 2 weeks of rough terrain, running 24-7 without a single issue!

You pay for what you get

Theyre expencive for sure but ultimately reliable, which is what you want in the middle of morroco or australia or wherever. Think engels come with at least a 3 year warranty
