Hello everyone, my name is Harry Morris and ime a new boy here, BOY !!!! Well ime 75 and a new boy to this fantastic forum.
Well I bought a Freelander year 2000 TD4 with known problems, and I bought it because my wife Won't drive an ordinary car !!! she says she feels safe in these big comfortable buses, we used to have a Honda CRV but it was needing much welding and ongoing problems with corrosion etc so it had to go.
Now ime a retired engineer and am ok with spanners and screwdrivers and the car is in my workshop where I can work on it or walk away any time I don't feel to good.
This ancient car has done a quarter of a million miles, yep 250000 on the clock and still looks great and judging by the mud on it is well preserved, everything works and that's great, but now the problems !!!!
The Diesel engine I understand does Not Have a timing belt but a chain for the valve timing etc and only has a belt to drive the alternator and water pump, this engine starts instantly and sounds just fine it passed the emissions test no problem.
Now the problems are the waterworks, if I put a litre of water in the header tank it will exit almost immediately past I believe the water pump, dripping from the lower pully, but the other water leak looks very serious to me because the litre of water will pour out from of the THE TRANSFER BOX drain plug, the first time I removed the transmission drain plug No oil came out but at least Two litres of water No oil or fluid at all.
So there we are folks, never seen anything like that before !!! So I need help, has anyone had this problem before, or any thing similar I would be most great full for any help or suggestions, cheers Harry Morris.
