I have been thinking for a while about this now and anytime I am under my Freelander I can see it. (This applies to the 1.8 Petrol I am not sure about the TD4 engine layout)

First of all you may think track car? no chance on earth.

But I think it is plausible yes with an unprecedented amount of time and money and it wouldn't really be a Freelander anymore but the frame of the car is perfect, the gear selector rods take up such a massive space you could fit a rear facing engine in it as opposed to the Side facing engine that comes as standard.

You would need a hell of a lot of customisation to it, including all diffs > if it stayed RWD it would not need a transfer box but really thinking about it, the engine space is so big and the car is so light, especially a 3 door model, strip it out and swap the engine to something much more powerful and rear facing the suspension would need lowering and replacing entirely, but my thoughts are that it is so spacious EVERYWHERE that it wouldn't really be that far fetched to think it possible.

The money required would just be excruciating having to design and buy every mount for the motor and diffs / exhausts / suspension / wheels / props etc

anyway just a thought

I guess you'd be looking at something like the opposite of this, but along the same lines if you know what I mean. FL body on some sort of custom chassis.
