Good afternoon

I've been looking through all the Posts, but none seem to answer the problem I have, yet I'm told the following problem is common with Freelander and that there's a 'reset' process that sorts this problem out?

My 2005 Freelander TD4 Facelift (3-door) has a locking tailgate problem where, once you open the door you have to operate the door handle in and out whilst the door's still open several times until you hear the locking mechanism work and then you can close the door. If you don't wait for that noise the door doesn't shut (although the glass still goes up!).

The vehicle's CDL system all works fine, the tailgate door glass works ok too, and when the tailgate door is locked it doesn't pop open at will (like some Freelander owner's have experienced).

Any suggestions?

Is there still spring tension on the handle? My springs had rotted away and it was causing no end of trouble. Other than that maybe time for a new sensor, I'll try to find the part number.

Will.

Apparently the doors fall off if they go off road so if you look out side your local school on the pavement you may find a good replacement!

Hi. Thanks for your response. Yes there's still spring tension. I have to keep pressing the handle in and out until I hear the electric whirring noise and then I know it will shut and lock. Somtimes it takes 5 or 6 attempts before it does it! So although everything works (eventually) I'm guessing something is on its way out....

Yep got the same problem taken the whole lot apart nothing wrong tried lube still no difference but if you hit the door just above the latch where the 3 screw heads are the latch usually returns straight away. I found the mechanism worked very well as long as the screws were loose but once tight it sticks.
