Freelander TD4 MK1 (2000) , 2 wheel Drive back to 4wd

Hi to all, I am new to this site, Having recently Purchased a Freelander mk1 TD4 (2000) with the prop shaft removed and a blanking plate fitted to the transfer box where the pinion would normally be .
Has anyone had any experience of fitting a pinion from another vehicle then fitting the complete prop shaft.
I was more concerned regarding the mesh quality of another pinion .
