Hi
My 2004 TD4 Freelander is suffering from intermittent loss of power. An engine management light (see attached photo) comes on and the car suffers loss of power. It doesn't fail, it just goes into a low power mode such that it won't go over about 30mph.

The car only does this when the engine is warm / hot. Never when cold. If I switch the engine off & restart i, then it goes fine for a while & then fails again.

I have recently replaced the high pressure fuel pump seals, serviced it (new filters, oil etc) undertook the EGR mod, and fitted a new engine speed sensor.

I now suspect the Engine Temperature sensor as the fault only occurs when the engine is warm or hot, although the temperature gauge does not rise....another symptom ?

Any thoughts or ideas peeps`?

If that's as high as the temperature gauge reads, then the thermostat has failed.

The running issue could be a few things however. Corrosion on the fuel rail sensor is a common fault. A failing low pressure fuel pump is another common problem. Both those need investigation before delving deeper.

It's wise to read the fault code, that's responsible for the warning light. ;)

Hi websun.....will that definitely read the codes ? Landrover or Freelander is not mentioned on the eBay listing....

The facelift FL1 was OBD2 compliant, so a generic reader will work ok for codes and some live data. The generic reader's won't read LR specific codes however, just the universal OBD2 codes.

I used to get the engine management sign on and I brought a icarsoft reader and it said it was the sensor on the side of the inlet manifold is it the maf sensor
