Hi, I have a problem with my vehicle which I'd appreciate some feedback.

Normal driving - It loses power (intermittently) when you are sitting between 50-70mph. i.e. a small sudden drop in power, only for a second, then normal power resumes.

It appears to have a very slight diesel leak somewhere near the fuel pump. After a long journey or just continued use for a few days, Diesel residue can be seen in and around the fuel pump. I've had a mechanic replace belt just recently and he couldnt see where the fuel was leaking from??

Now, I am wondering whether the two issues are connected i.e. fuel pump issue causing intermittent power problems? I had initially thought the power problem maybe turbo related but now I'm not sure.

If the fuel pump needs replaced, is this a Landrover only job?

Many thanks in advance for advice.

OK...... The pump above the wheel arch was replaced 6 weeks ago, but the leak now is close to the engine pump. I am assuming it is the pump but its very difficult to see down there. It's just a slight spray that's eminating, but it's def coming from somewhere close to the pump.

If its not leaking from the 2 pipes coming from it, then they normally leak from the piston covers when the rubber seals are on the way out.
If you look at the pump above where the pipes are you will see the cap of the top piston (I think they have 3), they are locked down with 4 torque bolts ( 2 of them are hidden under the engine mount).
Normally they will leak 1st thing in the morning and then seal themselves up once run for a minute or so and not leak again until the following morning.....which is a total git cos if you run it down to the garage, they can't see anything leaking.
easy check though, in the morning pop the bonnet satr the car and then shine a torch onto the top of the pump to see if it's leaking.

Ok, thanks. Will take a look.

Is this likley to be causing the intermittent loss of power when driving?

cheers

The loss of power could be a few things just starting with injectors........
If you do a search there will be loads of stuff for you too look at or if you can add to your description i.e. any stange engine noises before or during the power loss?. Theres some senior members of here that really know thier stuff and should be able to help you.

Had a quick look this pm but can't really see anything unusual...but that's maybe just my untrained eye.

During normal driving, doing lets say 50mph, you feel the car suddenly slowup just for a split sec and then normal power continues. This can happen many times on a journey. It doesnt usually happen when your doing 20-40mph or at least i dont notice it then. There's no noise when this happens. However when I accelerate I think I am hearing an air noise.....hence my thinking that something else maybe at fault??? Turbo?

I have found where the leak is........as you described exactly. It would appear that the seal is worn. Now the question is, how easy of difficult is it to repair?

Many thanks for indentifying the problem area.
