I recently purchased a freelander td4 which had a fuel problem when purchasing that I knew of but didn’t know the exact problem, I bought it for cheap so decided I would try and do it up in my spare time since everything else to do with the car was in good condition. When I first got the car it had a problem of the engine light coming on when giving the car to many revs and the car would go into limp mode, sometimes the engine would cut out and I would need to switch the engine off and restart the car then the problem would go away but come back if I revved over say 2k. Got told the problem was with the fuel pump, replaced that and the fuel filter drove round for an hour (with low fuel) car seemed ok was allowing me to rev high etc. Filled the car up with fuel the same problem come back straight away (engine light on/limp mode). Decided to get a diagnostic done on the car, was coming back with fuel delivery system problem. Took another look at the engine and noticed one of the injectors was wet, also started noticing the car was rough and rattling when idioling, changed the injector for a new one and the car ran 10x smoother but still getting the engine light/limp mode problem but this time it takes around 2 hours driving time for the problem to arise when the car is warmed up, can start it from cold and do a lot of high revs and no engine light will come on but as soon as the car has warmed up the problem comes back. Now upon taking out the original fuel injector I noticed the part number is 030, after researching I’m led to believe this is an injector for a Rover 75/MG. The part number I replaced the injector with was 049 for the manual TD4, I checked all the other injectors and they all have 030 part numbers rather than 049. Are 030 part numbers compatible with a freelander since Rover/mg/bmw was working on the same bmw engine that the freelander has? Is it worth me replacing the other 3 injectors with 049 part numbers to get rid of the engine light/limp mode problem? Since replacing the 1 injector the car is running 10x better but surely if the wrong injectors are in the car it wouldn’t run good at all would it? Already had 3 different mechanics out to check the car and they can’t seem to find the exact problem, don’t really want to throw parts at the car guessing if they aren’t really need. Came on here for help first to see if anyone could help me figure out the problem before my last step of taking it to a Land Rover/diesel fuel specialists. Any help at all is much appreciated. Thanks
