Hi

New to the forum and not sure I'm posting in the right place! Hope someone can help.

Car has been in the family from new so know the history but developed a power problem and its been traced back to a broken MAF connector which has been disconnected and now runs fine.

One of the cables has snapped off completely as is shown in the pic. Should I cut the loom open then tape it up and reconnecting? Not sure how far the cable has fallen down, is it easy to re attach?

Not adverse to buying a new MAF as the rest of the car is in reasonable nick.

The MAF has more then 2 wires!

Where is that connector on the engine and what should it connect to?

Looks like air boost temperature sensor fitted in the intercooler hose on 2004MY onwards Td4

Hey! thanks for replying and your help!

Thinking about it its not the MAF, I'm going by what the mechanic told me this morning when he disconnected it. It was broken before he did that.

Ive attached a pic of what he has disconnected. The car runs fine now but don't want to do any damage by leaving it un fixed

You're probably right with the boost temperature sensor as the turbo was not kicking in at all before and i could do max 20mph before the disconnect

Boost temperature sensor

You can buy the replacement terminals for the connector on eBay - it's a junior power timer connector

The wire broke on my Freelander Td4 as well and it didn't make any difference to how it drove so not sure if that's the source of your issues

Ah ok, you maybe right.

It has one of the cables still attached. Once we disconnected it the sensor it basically became like a normal car again. The turbo was not coming on at all when it was connected, took it off and the engine practically became normal again apart from it staying in a low gear for longer than normal going up a large hill. (I live in a pretty hilly part of london.)

Ill plug it back in again and see if the problem happens again. Mechanic was pretty certain it was the problem.
