Hi,

Yes another tailgate problem, to add to the others.

Had to change the cables again. Last time I fixed it it worked fine. Done it with bike cables, just the end connection came loose.

So fixed it again, and finished the ends with double screws to hold the strain. But the tailgate now acts as if there is slack on the cables. It works, but only a bit, then beeps and stops. Can keep pressing the switch to get window up-and-down, but when opening from the back the window does not drop. One thing handy though, can now drive with back window half down, which is impossible with fully working unit.

The unit acted like this the first time I fixed it, but the problem was then that I forgot to put in the 4 pins to "span" the spring on the one end.

So I think there is slack in the cables. The only thing that puzzles me is that the only cable never to be changed was the one that connects both window clamps with each other . That means the other cables got to be the right lengths, when I struggle get the other cables around their wheels !?

Taken the whole thing out twice, but can not see a problem. All fine around the wheels, and nicely wound inside the motor. Cables feel tight as well. Even took battery positive off to "reset" system, but nothing changed.

Any suggestions ?

Are you sure the replacement cable is the same length as the original ?
if not it could need another wind around the spool.
Is it going into the motor mechanism through the right opening ?

I have no idea really what could be wrong.I might have some idea if it were in front of me.
Do let us know what the solution is,when you do get it sorted.

can't you try to reset the spring to its tightest setting and then adjust the length of your cables to suit, then the spring will have some tensioning effect.

Bogger !!

Shortened the cables, tightened them, re-wound inside the regulator as the cables were not in the right grooves and put it in-and-out 3 times.

Still the same beep, beep.

Now will slacken them, before tighten them again if nothing works.

What I did find out, all got to be good with the tailgate. The regulator will beep if anything is not right !

Just goto find out what it is.

The good thing about the current situation is, that the tailgate window can be set in any desired position.

The bad thing is that the rear window heating-and-wiper doesn't work.

Am a bit afraid that this constantly taking the whole system in-and-out is gonna damage bolds, the plug or something else.

Keep you updated on the progress. :scratching_chin:

Cont:

I have checked the cables and regulator several times. Cables are tight, right way around spool, in the grooves etc. But still window goes down or up a bit every time I push the button. Accompanied with a lot of beeps. (fault yes, but where ?) The window goes down when opening tailgate from the back, but does not close when shutting door. Have used CL 4 times to reset, have taken battery off for over 5 min trying to reset.

If I use key in tailgate window moves up a bit.

For the rest, it is still the same. Also rear window heat and wiper do not work, but ok that's because it detects a fault.

There is one thing I can not understand. Below a diagram by Michiel van de Ven (search on his name, great thread about this problem of broken cables !)

I replaced the red and blue cables. All is tight. That means with the green not replaced all should be the same length. Still it seems that when I put the window back in I have to adjust the position of the glass compared to the clamps ?

Any suggestions ?

FD-Mike
