Hi all
Recently bought a 03 freelander td4 with 50000 miles. Purchased off a suzuki dealer with warranty. Since arrival engine fault light constantly comes on and engine reverts to safe mode and will not pass 2000rpm. if stopped and stated again problem resolves and may last for days until it occurs again. suzuki Dealer has had td4 back 4 times to fix and has brought to two different land rover dealers. have replaced 2 fuel lift pumps several filters and supposedly the ecu. Land rover dealers have placed on diagnostics but can not track down the problem as it seems to be periodic. original seller willing to exchange the vehicle but hasnt got anythig as nice. has anybody else seen a similar proble. Some posts have mentioned the potentiometer but I would have thought this would be the first thing replaced by lr dealers.

Thanks in advance

had a similar prob just after i bought a 03 td4. i used to get the engine light coming on if i gave it too much right foot when at low revs. turned out it needed a new injector. the fault was that not enough fuel was being delivered by the faulty injector. at the time i was still under waranty and the LR dealers spotted the prob straight away. Aparently its a straightforward test to see if the injectors are at fault so might be worth asking if they have checked this.

MAkes sense I never thought of the injectors. Runs fine until light shows up. Probably never would be noticed without the ecu. with your problem would the engine remain i safe mode until restarted or woul it self correct.. Its going back tomorrow under warranty so ill suggest they check the injectors and report back. Many thanks

Hello got the same problem, main dealer at a loss!! Change fuel injector Filters but still the same problem the engine management light comes on loss of power take foot of and back on again in a few min's.

I have a similiar problem on a 1.8 2001, the light comes on periodically, will stay on for a couple of days then go off but there is no difference at all in the driving of the vehicle. I have had diagnostic check no faults showing up cos typically when I took it in the light was off. Funnily enough its just come back on today, I've actually given up worrying about it and I am waiting for the big bang!!!

With All these problems people are having whats the use of that poxy computer, I think its time to forget landrover and look at a "Kia" or Rav4.

This seems a common problem no wonder all the British Car Plants have now gone still pay peanuts and you get monkeys!!

you are right. Its s a bit outrageous when the main dealers cant figure it out. Still the freelander is still more rewarding than a kia. New Vitara looks reasonably robust
