Hi, New to this and been searching all related threads to the rear tailgate issues on freelanders. Mine beeps 4 times when I press the consel button. The rear door handle operates and opens the door but the glass doesn't drop at all. I can force it open but have no rear wiper or heated window. I removed the back panel ect and had a look. Can't see any broken cables but then again I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Are broken cables easily seen? I disconnected the elec plug ends visible to me and put on again. I removed the 3 screws on the regulator but how do I disconnect the cables to be able to remove the regulator?
Thanks for any help in advance

Cheers men. Na not a 3 door. I'm not great wit a meter but a mate at work suggested attaching a spare battery with wires directly to the regulator to see if it works. If not the assumption is the regulator is shot and if it does then its either wiring or relay. Yeah fuses all fine. Do you know how I can completely remove the regulator? When I unscrew the 3 studs the cables still hold it in there. How do you disconnect the cabling from the regulator? Is it worthwhile removing the door switch? It sounds like its OK but not sure what signal it sends to tell tailgate to drop an inch...Bloody hate anything wit wires attached!

Might be worth removing the internal o/s wheel arch plastic trim.Thats where you'll find the wiring and relay to the tailgate regulator.Try another relay to check.
If you can get the door open, loosen the bolts at the top of the regulator that hold in the glass, not going to be easy if you cant drop the glass a few inches.Open the wiring connectors to the motor(actually that might be where your problem lies,it might already be open)and the wire to the heated screen.
Once the glass is out you can open the bolts that hold the regulator to the door.It takes a bit of careful manouvering the remove the posts.
If you do decide to open the motor unit make a note or take a photo to remind yourself which way the cable goes into the motor.

Good luck.

I'm knackered,time for bed.

Cheers Freelance. Yeah fuses all OK checked em all when I was at it. Did the electrics check thingy where u press the fog light switch. Everything worked in sequence each time I pressed the lock button but when it came to the back window nothing. The door latch openned though during the test. I'm thinking its either something in the door switch thats not sending the signal to the regulator or the relay or the regulator itself. Im bad wit electrics so putting it off as long as I can. First Saturday Im free or bored I'll probably remove the cover and look again. I couldn't get the regulator out last time I looked. I don't know how to remove the cables. I removed the 3 screws and it hung there by 2 cables. Ah well...sort it some time..or else give up and take it to the local auto electrics guy..Cheers anyway mate

Just to close off my non working rear window.....It was the motor/regulator. Stealers wanted £250 for replacement but got one delivered to N. Ireland for £92. Local auto electric garage fitted it for £60. Alls good now.
