Hi Again.

My '06 TD4 back door is giving intermittend problem. Sometimes when I close the door the lock does not engage the receiver and the door hops back open. When the lock does not engage the glass does not move up either. I have sprayed WD40 ibto the lock mechanism and this seems to help for a while. But the door does not sound right when closing on the lock. I am afraid that it may eventually close and then not open for me. Has anybody else experienced similar problem?

Help please.:(

There could be several reasons why this is happening. Firstly the lock must be proven engaged so to instruct the window to wind up. Therefore your problem appears to be lock engagement. Why would this happen?

Lock assembly faulty
Lock receiver misaligned or bent
Door dropped
Door seals disengaged from the surround so fending the door off from locking

A few things to check. Let us know how you get on and what you find.

It is possible to 'fool' the system into thinking the door is closed. With the door open use a screwdriver to rotate the latch mechanism upwards to the vertical position. This should cause the latch position sensor to signal the CCU 'door closed' and the window glass should then rise. If this doesn't happen I would suspect loose or faulty sensor. If all works normally with the rear door open but strange things happen when attempting to close the door then I would suspect that the door or striker plate needs adjustment.

while the door is open, if you squeeze the handle do you hear the release motor whirr in the door, if you do hear it, will the door then shut correctly, the motor solenoid can be stripped and lubricated, but it is not expensive to replace, try squeezing handle 4 or 5 times if you hear nothing first time.

Had this problem with mine after it rains.Sprayed wd40 down left hand side of the window and it came right I suspect that there is a electrical component that gets
damp in there.

Many thanks for your ideas. I will have a look on Saturday, have been missing for a few days. Yes when the door is open & I actviate the door handle I can hear the release motor making noise. Will keep you posted.

I sometimes get this problem too, what I find is that if I push the door shut so that the Rear window rises , ensuring that the glassis within the slot at the top of the door ,so that there is no pressure on the glass itself, then push the door a little nuge again and it locks. Low tech, I know but it works on the od occosian that the door has given me hassle.

Thanks for that. My FreeLAnder rear door has not given me bother in some time now. I hope the WD40 that I sprayed everywhere has helped and that it will be a long time until I have to strip the doos panel out to see whats inside.
At least I know where to come for help.
Again Thanks
David

Hi there. Just to fill you all in. A few weeks back I opened the rear door and it refused to lock. So I had to strip dowm the door & lock mechanism. The solonid was not letting the lock go free once opened. I stripped & cleaned it and put some grease on it. Since doing this it is operating greatly. Without all the help & advice I got from LandZone I would not have had any idea what to do. Many, Many Thanks from a greatful Fan of LandyZone.

Microswitch in the handle burnt out on ours, to start with you would stand and reptitively pull the handle until it 'released' until one day it just died, had to rope the door shut with the tow rope and bungee tie a tarpaulin over it overnight, took it to a mate who runs a garage he reckoned it was the switch in the handle, went ant got a new handle assembly from LR, put it on and it's been fine ever since.
