Freelander L series tdi engine stopped .......

Hi guys just a head scratcher for you, wife driving the freelander when she got a load of black smoke then the engine lost power and stopped would not start again. AA recon the head gasket gone but i think it maybe the timing has slipped...... incidently sounds when you turn the engine ove that there is no compression...

I don't know about the black smoke,but mine mysteriously died.It took a while to find the cable connector to the fuel pump had opened.

Black smoke then engine dies does sound serious.

no compression sounds as though it might have thrown the cam belt. what's the service history like, has it been changed on time?
