Replaced the fuel filter on my 2003 3dr, 1.8. Problem now is the fuel gauge reads full! and its nearly empty. Got new sender today from the dealers and still the same problem what i'm I doing wrong???

Any ideas

Martin

I was fitting a new fuel filter to the pump assembly and I accidently broke the old sender unit, but before I changed the unit over for the new one all was working ok - - sorry I changed it now, but I must admit it has a lot more power and it ticks over better than before

take the unit out in your hand and plug it in and see what it reads but make sure the arm is fully down i had similar problem on a defender and the arm with the floating ball was seized

Yep had it out and still giving weird readings on the gauge - full then empty then half.

Could it be a faulty wire within the plug connection? does anyone no which of the 2 blue wires is earth?

Had a problem yrs back with a classic range rover but the arm was resting inside the tank on one of the baffles.

well if it was working before you broke it i dont see how the wiring to the unit can be faulty so best bet is to take it back to the shop and swap it for another one then see how it goes

Just changed the one on me depender today and found that the wiring on the britpart replacement is different to the original. If they are the wrong way round then full tank = empty gauge and vice versa, and if the two live ones are the wrong way round then the empty light is dimmable! If the earth is on one of the wrong units the gauge only woks when the empty light is on, then nothing! Dunno if any similarities between the models?

Thinking the sender unit I got from the dealer is faulty. Will get another one ordered up tomorrow.

Thanks for all the replies,

Martin

Shouldn't the resistance vary depending on how full it is? I'd say somewhere between .15 (empty) and say .4 (full) at a guess?

ps i'd expect one of them to be the gauge wire and the other to be the low warning light wire with the unit housing the earth??

That's what I thought, but when I spoke to the local dealer where I got the part from (workshop manager) he said about measuring the ohms. But then again he didn't no about a filter in the fuel tank!!!! so me thinks he doesnt work on the freelander! (I could be wrong). IF the weather clears up a bit I will have another look at it this week seems the weather in this country goes from wet to wetter to major floods & storms.

Thanks again for all the helpful tips very much appreciated

OK this is getting on my nerves. The part that is fitted is YAD000080 could this be the wrong part supplied? or has LR changed it to a newer design? as it looks nothing like the one I took of orginally.

The one that I took of was the old copper wire contact type.

Dealer keeps ordering parts to the VIN but me thinks the VIN isn't showing the correct fuel parts even tho it is a 2002 model (me thinks LR went into a part bin and found this part for my one lol)

So my question is - is it worth trying the YAD000070 part???

Many Thanks
Martin

I have this same problem! The fuel meter shows full when empty ? Is it worth changing the cables on the fuel gauge ? This is the two blue cables ? Would this make it show the opposite ?

Please help. I dont know how this happened since it has been like this since I bought it.
Is this something I could do on my own ? If I change the cables it won't do any damage ?

Thanks
