Hi All,

I have a problem with my drivers side door mirror. Someone kindly knocked it while I was parked and now it is loose. The glass is fine, however, as with most mirrors you can pull them out and they lock. Mine locks but when I drive, the wind pushes it forward.

I think it should be fixable if I can look inside the unit, but I am stuck at step one, How to get it off :)

I am guessing you remove the cover from the inside and undo some screws, but the plastic cover (Tweeter cover I believe) is tight and I am scared I will break it.

Could someone tell me how to remove the unit. Maybe someone has a diagram, that would be great!

Thanks in advance

From this it looks like the top pulls out first, the bottom is hooked behind the door panel.

does it have power folding, as often you just need to close and open them to get it to lock into place.

Interesting. I have power-folds on my TD4 HSE however the driving position (locking point, mid point whatever it's called) is loose on both. Sometimes they're fine and stay where they are, other times (like when laddo slams the passenger door) it'll move/fold in. They can even move in the wind/when driving as described above. I hoped there would be a grub screw or something underneath the pivot point, that I could adjust to "engage the click" a little firmer (if you see what I mean). But no. I can manually swing the mirror casing forwards and backwards but I'm not feeling as much resistance at the mid point as I'd like to. There's a weak click but that's about it. I shall sigh loudly (but not on the mirror or the bugger'll move) and continue to watch this thread with interest.

Ooh, meant to say. If I press the "fold" button to close them (with the intention of then immediately opening them), I usually get half a second of farty noise, they both come in a little bit and then stop mid flow. It's like the car has to build up energy for half an hour before folding them out again! Still, when they're stuck in, there's a slight improvement on my mpg :D

Hi Guys, thanks for the feedback

BOOBOODAG They are not auto folding.. they are manual.

CHASER, thanks for the image. I'll try it at the weekend (Hopefully I wont break it)

KINGM1, Seems we have similar issue. Both mine were fine, solidly locked into place. But now my drivers side mirror now clicks forward in the wind and also (like you said) when the door is shut. after that it seems to have an inch of play and keep folding in

I'll let you all know the outcome at the weekend

Thanks

Chaser is right, top to be removed first, with a small flat screwdriver you can do the job. (On top is a ribbed plastic pin that goes into a plastic hole)

Hi All,

Job Done thanks. You have to be carefull removing the inside cover as they are very flimsy.

I did not bother trying to take it apart, just brought new one and put it back on.

Thanks for all you help
