One of me workmates has borrowed his mates R reg freelander for the day and the clutch is biting right at the top of the clutch pedal. My thoughts would either be clutch needs bleeding or clutch plate ready to give up .

Thoughts anyone ?:D

On the same Subject (Clutches not Anal Lube :p ),
Got a 2001 Y reg TD4 Freelander (89k Miles) - if I don't move my foot off the clutch (not riding the clutch just depressed a few cm's) there is a 'zzzzz' chatter type noise, a bit like a tie wrap/zip tie being tightened . If I then move my foot off the pedal the 'zzz' noise stops. Told the dealer at Central Workington, but told my other half she was riding the clutch (e.g depressing the clutch once gear engaged - but she wasn't). Is it the clutch pedal/hose/release bearing on the way out? Other Land rover site (myFreelander) says play in the clutch driven plate ....but not sure.

Any ideas Please?

leaving your foot on the clutch is a terrible habit that used to get me a clip round the ear driving tractors as a kid.....engages the thrust bearing and wears it out:doh:

Most likely to be either the slave cylinder is duff or the clutch needs replacing, at that age may as well do both while it's in bits.

spoke to Porky bout this wun [eeze a furra bread] OK as a rule of thumb if your fluid needs bleeding it normally works that clutch bites [bite being the engagement of drive] at the bottom of pedal release . . . .clutch wear is at the top . . . . .adjustment refer to RAVE or HALFREDS MANWELL for your model and year . . . .a lot of just on the top seem to last a long time before complete slipping [complete slipping]= best test is steep hill full power in 3rd you will hear the revs increase with no more speed. . . .as for the zzzzzz this is a sign of clutch release bearing going ,however these again can last a long time before giving up just a pain to hear :D. . . .Ming advice ,if changing clutch think off fitting the heavy duty one and always a new clutch release bearing. . . . . .hope this helps you Earthlings :):):)

Happy New Year & Thanks guys. Ming, again thanks, very useful info from you & your fellow expert :). Trying to get the dealer to sort under the SoG act, or means getting the clutch looked at.
