Hi, i have a lhd freelander 1 1998 just come in that has the familiar bush tremors from underneath, is there a kit for this or do i have to order bushes separately from LR? also would this explain a bit of prop rub when cornering sharply?

You can buy a full polybush kit to replace all the suspension bushes around the vehicle.....

Or you can get polyeurathane bushes for the rear diff - i have seen these on eBay for about £11 each.

It sounds like your front diff bush is allowing excessive movement and the flange is touching the fuel tank shield - hence the noise.

Regards,

Steve

Steve, that's really helpful, thanks! Is this a big job?

You can change a front diff bush in about half a hour. I reversed onto some small ramps, undid the 2 rear bush mounts a little to allow movement and then jiggled the front bush out whilst pushing the diff to one side with my other hand. It will be noticable if worn - mine was shot to pieces and the centre tube dropped out once removed!! The prop and drive shafts will stop the diff from falling out if you do remove everything.

I really wish that I had gone with the poly version although my original lasted 8 years!!

Hope you get it sorted matey.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks, and for the diff mounts, what would you recommend? I may as well do the whole car, make it nice!

The diff mounts on mine are still ok at about 65000mls ,I would probably replace them when needed with genuine ones from l/rover as they have lasted well so far :)

The rear diff mounts are shot and that is causing the rattles and prop rub, i will change these and see if it's cured.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread on bushes as opposed to starting a new one.

So my freelander at around 102k is seriously creaking! The noises are hard to describe and random, i get a lot of creaking inside the cab but also it sounds like noises from the suspension. One noise sounds like a lightsabre being swung around! and I can't for the life of me figure out where its coming from.

After a look round here I see bushes getting a mention as something that can be changed over to help tighten it all up. I have a few questions, is this a diy type job, am useful enough on the spanners and have done the service and egr blank, would i need a ramp or can you do it with a jack and are any specialist tools required?

Also as above I have seen bushes kits on fleabay for about £90 and a poster above says the only ones to go for are the polybush ones but they are more than twice the money? Does anyone have any thoughts on this??

Thanks
Dan

ok picked up OTC Tools LRT-64-002 Remover / Replacer, Bushing
from ebay for £40 that was with delivery.
so just waiting on a bit of warmer weather

a few of my bushes where near death lol so i just replaced every one of them for uprated, the ride is much better now and no funky noises coming from anywhere :)

was a easy job just time consuming esp seeing i had no bush tool,i made one with a threaded piece of bar ,some washers and large socket (check youtube )and for the real stubban bushes i made a tool using some scrape metal a socket and a old bottle jack

the biggest problem was removing the very long bolt that holds everything up behind the back drums ,that needed lots of heat ,a drift and large hammer ,then new bolts lol
