Morning gents,

I picked up a Freelander to use for the winter, it's just an old S reg but 54k and is minted. 2dr with the removable top model

I'd been offered a set of Falken rv landair in 15s last week so tried to them them on yesterday but they are touching the shocks

The tire size is 31/10.50r15

The mechanic reckoned a 2" lift kit and or 5mm spacers might sort the problem.

Can anyone give any advice?

Your tyres are the equivalent of 265 / 75 R15 and as far as I know that's way too wide. 215 /75 R15 was the factory size and I know you can go a bit bigger but I don't think you'll squeeze these on without a bit of trimming of the arches. The overall diameter is about 8cm greater.

Spacers may move them from the shocks but dont forget that they alter the offset of the wheel too - originally ET35 iirc.

Haha it's got 195 80 15 currently. Think the best thing is to keep a hold of them for something else. Especially if it's more than a few butchered arch plastics. Then plastics I'd be fine cutting.

It's gutting because my Range Rover classic and Pajero have 16" and I need tires for both soon
 
195 80 15 was a factory option too, that's what ours has on. Just been quoted £80 a corner for a new set of Khumos. Got the same size on my T3 Syncro too, pretty handy all rounders. Sell the big ones to some mad person with a Suzuki :D
 
The standard (factory fit sizes) are/were:

195/80 15
215/60 15
215/55 16
225/55 17
235/55 17

Anything wider than 235 will hit the shocks/struts.

Unless you intend going off-road it is pointless going any bigger or wider.

Quite frankly for road use in the winter you do not need anything more 'aggressive' than the above sizes.

If you think you do - you have not driven a Freelander in the snow yet and are underestimating its capabilities.

Sell the big chunky tyres to someone who wants to look impressive.
Stick with the size you've got if you just want to get around when others have stuck.

Your right mate, I'll just keep it standard, the existing tires are like new, jut because they are cheap. I only bought it to sell during the snow anyways. Lift kit and spacers limits the marketplace! Haha
 
I know I will probably get shot for this BUT can anybody tell me how to work out the rolling radius of a 195 R 15 colway remold as there is no sidewall height on the tyres
Its only because I have been offered a set really cheap and they would be a good winter tyre option
But I dont want to screw up anything for the sake of some chunky tyes
I have looked at tyre calculators on the web but they don't help much

If no aspect ratio is marked on the tyre then by default it will be 80% - therefore the size mus be 195/80 R15 - Is this enough info?

I don't want to sound like a tyre anorak - but if you need more / all the dimensional data - just ask.

205/80/16's JUST fit a standard FL1. A lift kit gives more arch clearance but the issue is the lower spring cup which is only a few mm's away from the edge of the tyre. A hub spacer would push the wheel out to allow a wider tyre but any larger diameter would be too high gearing on an underpowered + no low-range boxed Freelander!

Try TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator to work out how different combo's of sizes compare.
 
Hi, I've found some General Grabber all terrain tyres 235/55/17 - they look a lot 'taller' than my current road set. Will they be OK for the Freelander (2006 Td4 station wagon)? How can I find out the diameter of these tyres?

Hello and welcome, you should be ok with 235s, I think it was a factory option. You can use a tyre calcuator but you'll probably be better off measuring them yourself.
