Hi guys ive got a problem i cant solve. so could do with your help please.
there is a noise coming from the rear. when your under power its fine but as soon as you change gear or free wheel its there, changed the rear wheel bearings and rear dif but still there. so taken the prop off and its gone. any idea please. is it he transfer box at fault

How are the VCU support bearings?, they're known to fail. The original last a good while, but cheap replacements last no time at all.
Also are the tyres identical, same make, same type, with least worn on the rear? Anything other than this will trash the VCU, which in turn trashes the IRD or rear diff, or both. You can get an idea of the condition of the IRD, simply by changing the oil. If the old oil comes out looking like grey soup, then the bearings are shot, and it needs a rebuild.

Its got a brand new set of tyres all round and matching. Recon rear dif and rear bearings both sides. But the noise is still there when you power off. With power on there is no noise. But taken the prop off and there is no noise. So am i right thinking the transfer box has shot

What about in the last 15 years, which is far more relevant than what's on there now?

Have you checked the VCU bearings are spinning smoothly without noise?

There's no guarantee the IRD is in need of a rebuild, just as there's no guarantee it doesn't. Draining the oil is the easiest way to tell what condition it's in.
