Every time I put the car in reverse and then drive, the car doesnt move forward for 2-3 seconds and then jerks and moves forward. Does anybody know what could be the problem. Is it a failing transmission? Even though the electronic panel shows "D" right away and I can hear the click sound righ away, the car doesnt move till 2-3 seconds and that too with a jerk.

Have you got a rattle while the engine is running? I've done 2 lately with the same fault as yours and the cause was a slipping/cracked drive plate. If you have no rattle then I suggest changing the ATF and trying it.

There is no rattle. Just the problem of it not engaging sometimes going from reverse to drive or even from park to drive in some instances. Will try the ATF suggestion. Any other recommendations are welcome.

I will definitely try that firt. But its less about smoothness of shifting, there seems to be a problem with some electrical/mechanical part since it waits for 2-3 seconds to actually move forward once i shift from rear to drive.

if its low on atf. it will hav delay then lurch all of a sudden. check level. then replace atf. you need to look at colour and smell it. if its burnt smell . change asap

so i took it in to the dealership. they said there is a problem with the internal workings of the transmission and needs a replacement. Also the delay has got worse. Not there is a delay for almost 4-5 seconds before the car moves once engaged into drive. One of them was giving me a fault p1605 as the error code, the other mentioned it was something to do with the mechanics. not sure what to do?

By all means get a quote from the dealership but also consider an automatic transmission specialist as well. A fluid change, for what it costs, is worthwhile before you spend a lot of money. How many miles?
