My manual gearbox just doesn't drive no leaks good clutch pedal selects all gear's simple doesn't move there was no clutch slip either the clutch was replaced 2 years ago any ideas

Will the car roll engine off, in gear? Still could be a catastrophic failure of the clutch or flywheel. More likely the gears aren't actually being selected, though. Any untoward noises as you try to drive?

Good morning Paul just to let you know I have received your thread i have extensive knowledge of clutches and engine's in all types of car's and lorry's changed clutches and ring gear in many of them but this Freelander seems a problem will start to strip it down and see what happens will let you know

The main 'difference' in a Freelander to a 'normal' setup for a problem like this is that you can lose drive by the splines on the IRD stripping.

If you're going to strip the box out, the IRD is the first thing to remove, so its the first thing you can check to :D

On the F1 there is a 'box of gears' that sits behind the engine and bolted to the gearbox (adaptor plate) - it contains a diff (splitting drive to the front wheels) and a direct drive output at the back sending drive down the prop shafts to the rear diff (splitting drive for the rear wheels). This is the IRD. As I say it bolts to the gearbox and has a splined shaft taking drive from the gearbox output.

I'm not sure on the F2 setup - I know there's a direct drive prop shaft to a rear diff that has the Haldex in front of it - but not sure how the prop shaft and front wheels are driven - dunno if this is all done by the gearbox or a separate 'box of gears' like the IRD.

FL2 has a fixed ratio transfer box. Less complex than FL1. Straight power in/out. Sit's behind engine.

Do not know if you got my last post but I am thinking of replacing the dual mass flywheel with a solid flywheel it's cheaper i wonder will it affect the smoothness of changing gear and the noise as the car runs thank you all for your help

Those who have posted on this fred or clicked the "watch fred" in the roght right corner (and then selected the email notification option in the pop up question), should all get a notification ping up (and email) if their accounts on ere have the box ticked to do so. I would eggspect most of us have it ticked. I do.

There's varying difference in opinion on the with or without dual mass option. Some don't like the idea of the dual mass as it costs more it it fails and some think they fail more often so a greater risk to have. But LR must have put it there for a reason. Others will give their thoughts. Mine's an auto but if I had a manual I would copy what LR did. They know more about vehicle design than we do.

From reading the thread... the original problem was loss of drive. You talked about the clutch but we were wondering if you had loss of drive for another reason. Have you solved the loss of drive problem or worked out the cause?

Edit: Just seen the other fred where yer said the center of the clutch has been ripped out so new parts needed.

A long time ago I had this problem with the clutch plate spinning out and an old boy fantastic friend of mine told me that the spigot shaft bearing in the end of the crank needed to be replaced did it and drove it was still okay seven years later and he sold the car so only no it was the cause spigot shaft bearing and very cheap do think I will change to a solid flywheel because it doesn't work hard enough to warrant the dual mass clutch thank you all for the post's
