Hi I’m new to the forum been reading older threads looking for help .My freelander 2 bonnet is stuck open the cable doesn’t seem to be moving it’s still attached but won’t close both side catches .Ive read the cable might be stretched but can’t see how to replace it .Any help would be much appreciated.

Check that the release handle has returned correctly in the passenger footwell (as in it’s not stuck ‘open’)

Thanks for answering The handle has lost some tabs so I’ve taken it off and tried to manually push and pull the cable I can see movement along the cable upto the left side catch but it’s not closing or opening

Is it connected at the catch end?

The fact that the handle is also broken suggests that perhaps it is being pulled too hard - which could suggest that the cables have stretched over time (needing more movement on the latch).

If you replace them, be sure to tie some strong string to the old one before you pull it out - then use that to pull a new one through.

And DO NOT close your bonnet when you are doing it. In fact, stick a lump of 4x4 across one corner so it physically cannot close!

Thanks again is it a big job to replace the cables?Seen an old thread saying bumper grill and headlights have to come off

I've not done the bonnet cables on the FL2, but it shouldn't be too difficult.
Headlights are easy removed, they're often removed to change the bulbs. The cable runs along the slam panel, then down the inner wing towards the firewalls.
As suggested, tie some strong string to the cable being removed. Which is then use to draw the new cable through.
