Hi. First post; hope someone can help.

Recently bought my first - a Freelander1 TD4 on a 51 plate. All good except for two things:

1. Leak coming through the back door when it rains. Removed the upper backlight finisher (I believe its called) to find the metal strip/seal underneath completely rusted. Can't find what it's called to get a replacement - any ideas? And is this a common thing that there's some tips to prevent it recurring?

2. The three lights on the dash have come on . Everything still driving fine and I've been told this is probably a wheel speed sensor come loose or got dirty or failed... Is that true? Is it a simple fix? Is any wheel more likely to be the problem than any other? Thoughts generally before I book it in... if it's something I can sort myself?

Thanks in advance
Steve

I believe the finisher you're talking about is shown on this kink...

If you find the part number you can then google for suppliers.

The lights are presumably the ABS/TC/HDC warning lights, collectively, and affectionately, known as the "3 Amigos". There are various things that cause this including (but not limited to) speed sensors, reluctor rings, brake switch, ABS modulator/pump etc. The best thing to do is to plug a code reader in do get the diagnostic codes - it will tell you which part (or wheel) is at fault - otherwise its trial and error or geeky type component testing.

Unfortunately a regular ODB2 reader won't work because its not compatible and its the ABS faults. I take mine to the local landie workshop and they charge me a few bucks to read the codes.

Thank you - gives me loads to go on on both items.

Hi Steve, I need to replace the same piece of trim due to a dreaded leak. Can you explain how you got your trim off.
When I tried taking mine off I snapped it in two. I have now got to remove some from another Freelander and really don’t want to break one again. Cheers pal

Is a while ago now... I think I just carefully applied equal force at both ends (outstretched arm monkey impression) and forced it upwards and it unclicked. I did same at breakers yard to get other one off. Alternatively I might have pushed vertical side ones up so they unclip and then got access to the top horizontal one that way. Memory failing; sorry , hope that helps..
