Freelander 1 intermittent power loss

After driving for 106 miles the lost power and cut, I waits 2mins then it starts and frive normally for 34miles the looses power again and switches off, I wait another 2mins and it starts and drives normally for 23miles then same thing until I get to my destination. What is the problem? 2000 model, 1,8l petrol

Plugs, coilpacks and plug leads is a good place to start but the reason could well be another place. Do the MIL/Engine light flash when this happens? A fault code read out may also be a place to start.

Thanks, when the car does switch off, yes the normal lights on the dash switch on. The Check engine light never switches on. But once I wait 2mins and start the care everything is normal with no engine lights.
