Hello everyone new to the group I've recently baught a freelander 1 td4 and am having problems with the battery light flickering when driving there a new battery fitted and alternator has been changed and earth and wiring has been checked light flickers after about a mile of driving then stops when I stop and let it idle for a minute the headlights will dim in accordance with the flicker of the battery light any help appreciated at this stage thanks

Hi Aiden!
Welcome to the forum/madhouse.
If you post this again on the Freelander part of the forum you'll get quicker and more direct help.
But ignition light flickering is symptomatic of a brush not functioning properly in the alternator, and/or diode pack problems.
Best of luck sorting it out!

You are sure the drive belt isn't slipping?
Belt wos changed to hi no sound of slippin or anything like that.. when its flickering if you pull in and get look under bonnet when its on everything seems ta be moving freely and no slippin and light will go off when sat idling like everything ok ta ye drive for abit could sit al day idling with lights heater da whole lot on and not a flicker dosnt seem to be bumps on da road either dats triggering it

Not knowing the history of the alternator, i would take it off and get it tested, also ensure the batt terminals are spot on.
I take it you've looked at the link?;)

Alternator is off to get tested nw hi see how that goes gona check pulleys and tensioner aswell make sure ther running freely may look ok but am guessing if ther wos any resistance under load could flicker the light wi will push on yes your link wos very helpful lot of information i have dem all screenshoted for future reference thank you

Unfortunately these days, fitting new parts such as alternators is not proof of that part not being the problem. My freelander had three starter motors fitted within 6 months.

Does the fault occur when it's stationery, in neutral while revving the engine?
